Animal Crossing: New Horizons (2020)

Platform: Nintendo Switch

Genre: Simulation

Publisher: Nintendo

Developer: Nintendo

Notes: Much like Minecraft, this is a simulation game with a crafting system and the ability to customize one’s character, environment, and adornments ranging from fashion to artwork.

It didn’t take long to find Māori and Aotearoa cultural content being created, ranging from the Tino Rangatiratanga flag (choice!) to Tā Moko-adorned characters inspired by the film Moana (err…). Hopefully this will take on a Māori-led, education-focused approach as we saw with Minecraft a few years ago. And as Lazer Kiwi says, stay inside and save lives.
